Caribbean Canvases 2012

Caribbean Canvases, curated by visual artist LILI BERNARD for St. Agatha’s Catholic Church, Los Angeles, CA, featured the works of four Southern California-based, native-born Caribbean artists: Bernard Hoyes (Jamaican-born), Lili Bernard (Cuban-born), Silfredo La O (Cuban-born) and Duane Paul (Jamaican-born). Guests included UCLA Professor Paul Von Blum, Attorney Margo Bouchet, Dr. Nicolette Ballou, artists Toni Scott and Zeal Harris, and Dr. Carole Jordan-Harris, among others. The opening reception featured a live performance by Silfredo La O who painted with his feet and hands while dancing Afro-Cuban folklore to live percussion. The show ran from June 1, 2012 – June 3, 2012.
