CALIFORNIA CRUSADER NEWS: October 18, 2007 SISTAHS in ART: Lili Bernard and Angela Briggs Art Show Opening: “SISTAHS IN ART,” Saturday, October 27, 2007, 6-9 pm at Lili Bernard Studio-Showroom, 935 Chung King Road, Chinatown, Los Angeles, CA. Show runs through November 17, 2007.
Los Angeles-based fine artist Lili Bernard and local folk artist Angela Briggs will be showcasing and selling their artwork together at the Lili Bernard Studio-Showroom. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the nonprofit charitable organization ¡HABLA! Harvesting Asian, Black Latino Artists.
Angela Briggs manipulates her home-grown gourds to create sculptures, dolls, masks, musical instruments, accessories and prints that tell thought-evoking stories of her African-American heritage. Sifting and sorting through a treasure trove of “trash,” Angela incorporates found materials into her gourd artwork. For a preview of Angela’s work, please visit her website at: www.khatitifineart.com.
New oil paintings by Lili Bernard will be premiered. Story-telling portraits of Lili’s ancestors and of Cuban musical greats (such as Celia Cruz) grace Lili’s studio walls. Lili’s vibrant paintings transform her studio-showroom into a tropical delight. The subject matter of Lili’s oil paintings celebrates her Indigenous-Afro-Cuban/Jamaican/Spanish/Chinese/British heritage.
The opening will be held on Saturday, October 27, 2007, from 6 pm to 9 pm. The address is Lili Bernard Studio-Showroom, 935 Chung King Road, Chinatown, Los Angeles, CA 90012. Admission is free. Show runs through November 17, 2007.
