January 2007 – December 2011. For five years, from January 2007 – December 2011, I had an art studio in Chinatown, Los Angeles, which I kept as a public space and in which I also created my own art. The studio was located at 935 Chung King Road which is the main drag of Chinatown’s gallery row.
I ran the studio as a non-profit social practice art project which I called HABLA: Harvesting Asian Black Latino Artists. I mentored and taught art to local youth and adults, hosted an adult artist collaborative, and presented many group art exhibitions, poetry readings, staged performances (included spoken word and theatrical plays), musical concerts and book signings and readings.
Below are photos of some of the happenings in my art studio. (scroll down for videos.)
