Three Fronts: Testimonies of Black American WWII Veterans, work-in-progress by Lili Bernard

This is a five minute summary of a multi-part documentary video project on the Black American soldier’s experience in World War II, which I have been creating since 1994. It features testimonies of Tuskegee Airmen, the Black Panther Tank Battalion, Muntford Point Marines, Triple Nickle and others.

This is some footage of a documentary video I’m making which follows the day-to-day life of transplanted Afro-Cuban dance and drumming master, Juan Carlos Blanco.  He is the former lead male dancer and soloist of Cuba’s national folklore company called, Raices Profundas (Deep Roots), and currently runs the Omo Aché Afro-Cuban Music and Dance Company in San Diego and Los Angeles, CA.

This is a documentary video I created on the studio visits and opening reception of Colonialism: The Collective Unconscious, an art show which I curated in the Fall of 2011 for the William Grant Still Arts Center, Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. The show was ranked #5 in the Huffington Post year-end review: Best LA Art Shows in 2011, written by art critic Mat Gleason.

Caribbean Canvases, video by Lili Bernard, June 2012, St. Agatha’s, Los Angeles, CA

This is a short video I created of the Caribbean Canvases exhibition which I curated in June 2012 for St. Agatha’s Annual International Carnival. The show featured the works of four native Caribbean artists: Bernard Hoyes (Jamaican-born), Lili Bernard (Cuban-born), Silfredo La O (Cuban-born) and Duane Paul (Jamaican-born).

This is a short documentary video I made of the Sacred Memories exhibit in October 2010 at the Pico House Gallery, Pueblo de Los Angeles Historical Monument. There’s a scene in the video in which I met famed L.A. art critic, Mat Gleason, for the first time.
